Impetus - Let's Get Started -

"If we tell our daughters not to engage in premature and irresponsible sex, and not to have children before they are prepared to parent and support them, and do not tell our sons the same thing, then we are a part of the problem rather than the solution to teen pregnancy and out-of-wedlock births so many decry."  Marian Wright Edelman - Founder and President of The Children's Defense Fund (Guide My Feet: Prayers and Meditations on Loving and Working with Children)
Thanks for visiting!
At Impetus - Let's Get Started, we know that you have a vision of health and wellness for your children and youth.  Regardless to your relationship to them as parent, mentor, program manager or youth worker, one aspect of their health that may be of most concern to you is their sexual health and safety. How do you encourage the conversations that need to happen in order to look at and address behaviors that affect your youth's future?  Impetus - Let's Get Started exists to help parents initiate and engage in informed, open, frank, ongoing conversations with their youth about sex and being safe.

Our customers are:
  • parent groups and mentors;
  • public, private and community youth-serving agencies’ staff through training, consultation, professional development and technical assistance; and

For Parents
Parents are their children's first health educators. Parents give children their first and most lasting messages about sex, sexuality and relationships. As a parent,
  • When and how do you, with ease, initiate and engage in conversations that will keep the lines of communication about their sexual choices open?
  • How will you guide and teach them to be safe and learn to navigate risky situations, while still imparting your and your family's values?
You need information and encouragement to have good conversations with your youth. We have extensive experience educating and training parents, helping you develop and hone skills for talking to your youth about sensitive topics. We can design a workshop or seminar to meet your needs and time frame.
